Relax. You already have everything that you need. Your nature is already whole.
Your nature is already pure.
There is nothing to obtain. You just have to give
up and let go what is covering it.
~ Chamtrul Rinpoche
There is no doubt whatsoever, that I have had previous connections
with some of you on the path to buddhahood, over past lifetimes. The signs are very
clear. Through our past and present aspirational prayers to reunite, karma has ripened
in a way that our minds have now met again. We may well now have different bodies, and
we may well now be in a different environment, but we will continue on the path from
where we left off. I will always walk the path with you, right to the end, and I will
never depart from your side. That is a promise.
~ Chamtrul Rinpoche
The greatest pilgrimage that you can ever make is to the temple of your mind.
In there you will find a buddha.

The Tibetan
word for “anger” translates as “rising wind”, which refers to the surge of subtle
energy that rises in your subtle energy body when you become angry. You will
definitely feel it when it happens, as it is physically uncomfortable, and it
completely destroys your peace of mind. I can not emphasise enough how negative this
energy is for your mind and body, and for your progress on your Buddhist path.
Please, never, ever forget this.
So whenever somebody or something
intentionally or unintentionally harms you, whether it is mental or physical harm, no
matter how big or small it may be, try your very best to not get angry. Instead,
strive to become a truly inspirational Buddhist practitioner, and perceive the
situation in a different manner. Perceive it as the perfect training ground for your
cultivation of patience.
After all, the cultivation of patience is absolutely
crucial for your Buddhist path. Sooner or later, as you progress towards buddhahood,
you will have to perfect patience. There is no avoiding it! So try your very best to
not ignore this wonderful opportunity, no matter how difficult it may at first seem.
With time, it will become easier and easier, as your new habit of patience will
effortlessly overpower and replace your old habit of intolerance.
As Atisha,
the great Indian master and scholar, once said, “If you get angry with those who harm
you, when will you ever be able to cultivate patience?” So cultivate patience, just
like all of the great yogis have done in the past. Just as a great mountain will
remain still in a storm, a great yogi will remain patient, no matter who or what is
harming them.

Happy Saka Dawa! If Shakyamuni
Buddha attained enlightenment, so can you! No matter how insignificant you feel, no
matter what problems you have, and no matter how many afflictive emotions fill your
mind, never underestimate your potential for a single moment. Like a diamond covered
by dirt, your buddha nature is there, waiting to be discovered.

(Saka Dawa is an important date in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar
where we celebrate Shakyamuni Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and parinirvana.)
Do not become fixated on your past negative actions, by continuously thinking about
them, over and over again, to the point that it debilitates your mind with worry,
guilt, anxiety and depression. It will get you nowhere, other than pulling you off the
path.
Instead, bring them to the path, by acknowledging them, regretting them,
remedying them, and then doing your very best never to repeat them. This is the way
that you will keep your peace of mind, and progress on the path to the enlightened
state of a buddha.
~ Chamtrul Rinpoche
Compared to the ancient
wisdom cultures, more and more people in today’s modern global culture are using so
much of their time and energy on focusing only on the darkness of our world.
Please focus within, and shine the light of your love on to the world, and illuminate
everybody that you encounter. This is the way of the bodhisattva.
Just how a
candle lights another candle in times of darkness, the illuminating qualities of a
loving bodhisattva will inspire others to also turn within.
~ Chamtrul
Rinpoche
No matter how expert that you have become in everything in your
life, there is always room for improvement, until everything that you do, you do with
love.
~ Chamtrul Rinpoche
You most probably have been mentally,
verbally, or physically harmed more than once in your life. If you can remember all of
those harmful things that happened to you, without having any harmful thoughts towards
those who harmed you, that is forgiveness.
Nobody is denying what you had
experienced. Nobody is denying that the other person committed a harmful action
towards you. What that person did to you, will have future karmic consequences for
them. How you respond, will have future karmic consequences for you. Please, for the
benefit of yourself, and for all other beings, stop perpetuating this harmful karmic
cycle, and respond with forgiveness.
~ Chamtrul Rinpoche
During
your life you might meet many people and cultures who will try to discourage you away
from your Buddhist path. But once you start to taste the fruits of your practice, you
will be filled with so much unshakable faith and enthusiasm, that nothing can
discourage you.
Always remember, that no matter how rough the surface of the
ocean becomes, a great stillness can be found below. Likewise, beneath the turbulence
of your suffering and afflictive emotions, a vast expanse of peace and bliss awaits.
~ Chamtrul Rinpoche
Do not think it is love, when it is
attachment and expectation. So many relationships are built on attachment and
expectation, not love.
Love is the wish for the other to have happiness and the
causes of happiness. And love expects nothing in return. Whatever relationship that
you are in with the other being, when you say that you love them, ask yourself, “Do I
love them this way?”. If not, it is not true love.
~ Chamtrul Rinpoche
If you continuously dwell on the past, or anticipate the future, you will
never fully live, let alone practice the buddhadharma.
Of course, sometimes it
might be important to think about the past, or the future, but try not to let it take
up too much of your time, otherwise you will miss the opportunity of practice that
your mind can be engaging in right here, right now. After all, the past has gone, the
future has not come, so the most important moment of your life will always be the
present moment.
And do not keep putting off practice, by thinking that another
location or another time would be more suitable. There is no justified excuse for
that, because there is no moment better than the present moment.
Wherever you
are, and whatever you are doing, bring your life to the path.

Rinpoche
